On New Year's Day Vigil to be held for corrections officer killed by alleged impaired driver

MENOMONIE, Wisconsin — A candlelight vigil has been scheduled for New Year’s Day to honor a corrections officer who was killed early on Christmas Eve.

Jeff Reynolds, a corrections officer at the Dunn County Jail, died after being struck by an allegedly intoxicated driver. According to the criminal complaint, Mark Allen Sokolowski was driving at high speeds before passing a stop sign and colliding with Reynolds’ vehicle.

A preliminary breath test on Sokolowski revealed a blood alcohol level of.152.

The candlelight vigil will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday outside the Dunn County Judicial Center, located at 615 Stokke Pkwy in Menomonie.

In Dunn County, the Menomonie Police Department is mourning the sudden and unexpected death of off-duty officer Sam Miller.

“As the staff at the Menomonie Police Department processes the grief of losing Officer Miller, we ask for the patience and understanding for the community and to respect the privacy of Officer Miller’s family,” a statement issued by Menomonie Police read.
