MADISON, Wis. – Authorities in Wisconsin have provided an update on a man who became unresponsive while being transported to jail on December 31, 2024.
According to a press release from the Wisconsin Department of Justice, the unidentified man died on Tuesday, December 31.
Shortly before 8:30 p.m., Madison police responded to a report of a vehicle theft at the Best Western on Annamark Drive.
A foot chase ensued with the man, who was taken into custody. Before being transported to jail, emergency medical services were called in to evaluate him.
According to reports, the man was unresponsive when he arrived at the jail. He was taken to a nearby hospital and later died.
The law enforcement officers involved have been placed on administrative leave, as is standard procedure. The incident is still under investigation.
