MENOMONIE, Wisconsin — The Menomonie Police Department has provided an update on the cause of death for Officer Sam Miller, who died unexpectedly on December 27, 2024.
The St. Croix County Sheriff’s Department investigated Officer Miller’s death and determined that he died tragically from suicide.
Officer Miller was not on duty when he passed away.
With this announcement, the Menomonie Police Department hopes to raise awareness about the importance of mental health for all first responders.
“As we honor Officer Miller’s memory, we also want to emphasize the importance of mental health support and resources available to first responders,” the Menomonie Police Department said in an update.
“There are numerous options available to provide assistance. If you are a first responder in need of help, please reach out.”
The department also listed a number of resources available to first responders, including Copline, BlueLine Support, the Suicide and Crisis Hotline (988), the Crisis Text Line (Law enforcement should text BLUE to 741741 and others should text TALK to 741741), 911 for emergencies, or department services such as peer support and Employee Assistance Programs.
