A girl was killed by someone who ignored the annual warnings against shooting into the air on New Year’s Day, according to Miami-Dade police.
The child’s name was Yaneliz Munguia. She just turned ten years old on Thursday.
According to preliminary findings, Yaneliz “was struck by a stray bullet fired into the air from an unknown location by an unknown subject,” according to Miami-Dade police.
According to police, Yaneliz collapsed around 1:30 a.m. while celebrating New Year’s Eve/New Year’s Day with family at 2152 NW 27th Ave. Family members discovered she had been shot in the back of the head. Her mother and father got her into a car and began searching for a hospital while dialing 911.
They were at Palm Avenue and West Third Street in Hialeah when Hialeah Fire Rescue apprehended them and transported Yaneliz to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
