According to Nassau police, a 55-year-old man died in a sequence of collisions on the Long Island Expressway near Plainview on Saturday morning.
It happened at 7:14 a.m., near Exit 46.
According to detectives, the 55-year-old male was driving a Mazda pickup truck eastward when he collided with a 29-year-old guy driving a Honda Pilot.
The Pilot came to a stop in the HOV lane, while the Mazda came to a stop in the LIE’s left lane.
The victim exited his vehicle when a 47-year-old man drove a Rav4 into the Mazda, causing it to collide with the victim.
According to investigators, a 27-year-old male driving a Subaru Outback attempted to avoid the vehicles in the left lane by switching to the HOV lane, but was struck by a 69-year-old man driving a Chevy Suburban.
The victim was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead, according to investigators.
The driver of the Outback was also transported to the hospital for examination.
According to police, the driver of the Suburban reported chest symptoms, while the other two occupants sustained minor injuries.
The drivers of the Rav4 and Outback, who were unhurt, remained on the scene.
