A man from joplin was fatally shot Saturday evening after reportedly firing a shotgun at a deputy responding to a disturbance at his home at 850 W. Fountain Road.
According to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, Michael Antwiler, 60, came out of the house with a shotgun and fired at the officer.
The deputy returned fire, hitting Antwiler. At 8:24 p.m., Antwiler was pronounced dead at a local hospital, despite receiving emergency intervention. The deputy was not wounded.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating, with an autopsy scheduled for Wednesday.
