A Wisconsin man has been accused of tossing an eight-month-old baby against a wall out of frustration after losing a basketball video game.
Jalin White, 20, was arrested in Milwaukee last Thursday and charged with child abuse and neglect, according to jail records.
According to local broadcaster WISN, White was hauled into prison after the young boy’s mother discovered him gravely damaged in his playpen and transported him to the hospital.
Prosecutors said at a court hearing on Saturday that White provided confusing and illogical explanations for the boy’s condition before admitting to slamming him against a wall.
“This is a severe level of violence for an innocent infant child,” prosecutor Madeline Witte stated.
According to reports, the youngster is unlikely to survive. According to legal records obtained by Law & Crime, White was caring for the child last Tuesday in a room he shares with the child’s mother, which they rented from her parents.
The boy, referred to as “JW” in records, was allegedly doing well when his mother returned home from work. However, after leaving the house to go shopping, she allegedly discovered JW hardly breathing and his right arm “twitching”.
According to the docs, despite White’s “angry” questioning, JW’s mother brought him to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with a fractured skull, six broken ribs, and a broken collarbone.
White allegedly claimed that JW was wounded when his mother smacked his head on a door frame, that he fell when his diaper was being changed, and that White himself dropped JW while playing video games.
Finally, according to the records, White admitted to injuring JW himself because he was unhappy about being two points down in the videogame NBA2K.
According to WISN, White became emotional while the details were being recited in court, shaking his head and crying.
