A shooting happened early Monday during a traffic stop in Callaway County, Missouri. Two cops were hurt, and a suspect was killed.

Jonathan Beason, 37, of Medina, Texas, has been named as the suspect who died.

The shooting hurt two deputies in Callaway County, but their identities were not released. The sheriff’s office said they had to have surgery and “will need extensive time to recover.”

That’s what the sheriff’s office said: “Please remember and pray for their families.”

According to the sheriff’s office, a traffic stop on Interstate 70 was started by a deputy from Callaway County. Soon after, another officer joined the investigation.

Callaway County Joint Communications told the officers that the driver was wanted on several out-of-state felony warrants while the car was being pulled over.

The driver then refused to be arrested, and police said shots were fired. During the fight, all three were hurt. But the driver was declared dead at the scene, and a gun was found on him.

Both of the officers who were hurt were taken to the hospital.

The Callaway County Sheriff’s Office said that one of the officers was out of surgery and the other was waiting for their surgery to start just before 2 p.m. here in the area.

The first one was marked as stable, and the second one as important.
