RSU 67 discusses recent threats made at Mattanawcook Jr. HS

At the RSU 67 school board meeting on Wednesday, many angry parents spoke out because three threats had been found at Mattanawcook Jr. High School in the past week.

The Lincoln Police Department and school leaders worked together to get everyone out of the school and make sure it was safe.

All three events happened at different times, and three kids have been named.

For children younger than sixth grade, the consequences are different, and by state law, they can only be suspended for a few days and not be sent home.

Parents are asking for a better place to evacuate and harsher punishments.

Officials from the school also talked about issues and asked for help from the community, especially with mental health.

“Everyone is angry right now, but I know that the staff, the people I work with, and the board members are going to push through it and get through this.” But I really need your help.

We need to work together as a community to make things better, said Dr. Paul Austin, Superintendent of RSU 67.

There will be more talk about safety and security at the school at the end of the month at a community meeting.
