WWH announces Ellen Thompson as Chief Operating Officer

LA CROSSE, WI – Western Wisconsin Health (WWH) is happy to say that Ellen Thompson has been promoted to Chief Operating Officer (COO).

Ellen will use her many years of experience in risk, compliance, and quality management in her new, bigger job. She will also be in charge of running WWH’s Rural Health Clinics every day, which will help the organization continue to grow and be successful.

Ellen has lived in Spring Valley, Wisconsin, all her life. Since December 2021, she has been an important part of the WWH leadership team as Director of Risk, Compliance, and Quality.

During her time on the job, she has been very helpful in making sure that standards are followed and leading the Quality Department to strive for operational and clinical success. Because of what she has done, she is now an important part of WWH’s top leadership team.

Before she worked at WWH, she was the administrator of the Heritage of Elmwood Nursing Home. In this job, she was also in charge of running Grace Lutheran Communities’ operations in the area and helped a number of facilities.

Ellen graduated from the University of St. Thomas with a Master of Science in Healthcare Innovation. She also has a Bachelor of Arts in health care management from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

She has a license to run a nursing home and is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ).

Ellen is still very involved in her neighborhood. She lives in Spring Valley with her husband and three kids. She is also on the Board of Directors for the St. Croix Valley Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) and has completed the Rural Wisconsin Healthcare Cooperative Quality Residency program.

You can hear her talk about rural health and patient safety at the AHA Rural Health Care Leadership Conference, which is held every year across the country.

CEO of Western Wisconsin Health Eilidh Pederson said, “Ellen is the perfect person for this job because she cares deeply about her job and her community.” “We’re lucky to have her as our leader, and we look forward to seeing how she continues to improve our organization and the communities we serve.”

As a community-based healthcare group, Western Wisconsin Health works to improve the health and well-being of people in the area.

In rural areas, WWH is changing the way healthcare is provided by giving a wide range of services, such as primary care, rehabilitation, and specialty care. This means that people can get high-quality care close to home.
