A press release from the California Highway Patrol says that officers went to a call on Wednesday morning about a woman who had been hit by a car and killed while biking.
A call came in at 11:12 a.m. from the CHP about a crash on Livorna Road under the Interstate 680 overpass involving a bicycle and a car.
On Livorna Road, a woman riding a bike was going west. On the right side of the road, a man in a black Toyota bZ3X was stopped. When he crossed into the road, he hit the bicycle coming the other way.
Even though the CHP and other emergency services arrived to help, the woman’s injuries were too severe, and she was declared dead at the scene. The driver of the Toyota was not hurt.
A Contra Costa County CHP official said that the crash’s cause is still being looked into and that no one was arrested.
As of now, the Contra Costa County Coroner’s Division has not released the victim’s name because they need to confirm their identity and get in touch with their next of kin.
