Wisconsin man creates online hub for custard flavors of the day

We know that people in Wisconsin really enjoy their pie. We also have a lot of options because the tastes of the day change all the time.

It’s not always easy to compare different tastes of the day, though. Up until now. As he figures out how to make this custard, one man shows that not all heroes wear capes.

Noah Huotari made custardmke.com so that people wouldn’t have to go to Kopp’s, Leon’s, and Oscar’s websites to find the day’s custard taste. All of that information is put together on one page to show the taste for 19 different custard shops.

“So I’ll go to all those custard websites once a month and scrape them.” Because some of them don’t scrape well, I have to put them in a spreadsheet by hand.

I then import that spreadsheet into my database. Based on the day, the website will then pull the flavors from each location from that database and show them on the site, Huotari explained.

See what the custard website looks like in the movie…

A man from Wisconsin makes an online hub for custard tastes of the day. Not all heroes wear capes.

The site has been up and running for about three months now, after being built over a few weeks. It has a list of custard shops in Racine County, Milwaukee County, Ozaukee County, and other places.

People have been very helpful so far; a lot of them have told Huotari they had the same problem.

He said, “I even found someone who had bought the opposite domain, mkecustard.com.”

But that website isn’t up and running yet. A few thousand people visit Noah’s custardmke.com every month.

The site has been up and running for a few months now, and Huotari is working on version 2.0. The Culver’s taste of the day list is one of the most-asked-for features. But Huotari said that wasn’t so simple.

“But each site has its own flavor of the day. I think there are at least 10 or 15 in the Milwaukee area, so it takes a little more work than updating the other sites every month.”

He is also working on making the app easier to use, making the search function better, and adding taste alerts so you never miss your favorite flavors.

“Of course you could check each page. “Having everything in one place is pretty handy, and it doesn’t take that long or cause any real problems,” he said.

Huotari doesn’t want to get rich from this website. He works on it for fun when he has free time. But we can all agree that it’s good that he made our custard decisions a little clearer. So not every hero has to wear a cape.
