Two guys are charged with murder and robbery in the Long Island killing

NEW YORK— Nassau County officials revealed Thursday that two individuals face murder charges in connection with the fatal shooting of a man on Long Island in September.

According to police, at 12:13 a.m. on September 11, officers arrived to Wayside Lane in Wantagh, where they discovered 32-year-old Yinauri Taveras on the side of the road with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced deceased at the spot.

Taveras was originally from Amityville but had recently shared his time between Puerto Rico and Westbury, according to officials.

On Wednesday, detectives arrested Anderson Ramirez, 34, of Central Islip, and Alex R. DeLarosa, 27 of Bay Shore.

Both are accused with robbery and murder. They were arraigned on Thursday.

Two other men are facing lesser charges, and a fifth, Johnny “Flaco” Rodriguez, is still on the run.

At a news conference Thursday, Nassau police Lt. Stephen Fitzpatrick stated that the victim was followed and then shot.

“Five males had previous dealings with him and had disputes with him,” according to Fitzpatrick. “They pursued him and rear-ended him, forcing him to pull over. When he went out to investigate the damage to the car, they attempted to rob him and shot him on the spot.”

Police stated that it was not about narcotics, but rather other transactions.

“The perception of being ripped off by him, acted out this revenge or retribution to get back property from him,” according to Fitzpatrick.

Johnny Rodriguez, aka “Flaco,” is the fifth man being sought in the killing.
