This Missouri Place Has the Harshest Garage Sale Laws in America

Why not hold a yard sale? Yes, there are a lot of them in one Missouri city. It has some of the strictest garage sale rules in the whole country.

I have to say that I don’t like garage sales. People were at my garage door at 5:50 a.m. asking why I hadn’t opened for business yet at the few events I’ve held in Missouri. Be afraid. I’m not judging you. You can get things for your family and save money at the same time. I get it. I just don’t like the process.

It looks like University City, Missouri doesn’t like garage sales either. You should look at the rules that the city has put in place to make yard sales hard to do. In University City, Missouri, E-Code 360 lists the following city laws:

Section 215.2330 – Yard or Garage Sales — Restrictions.

A. It is against the law for anyone to sell family items in a “yard” or “garage” sale in front of the front building line of their home.

A. It is against the law for more than two (2) days in a calendar year to have a “yard” or “garage” sale with home goods for sale.

All of the lawyer talk will be translated. This is the only place you can have a garage sale: the backyard. You can only do it twice a year. If you don’t, the University City, Missouri yard sale police will come after you and beat you up.
