Newton, Texas — The Newton County Sheriff’s Office arrested and charged a man suspected of murdering 16-year-old Jerome Rambo at the Elam Event Center in November.
On November 27, the individual was charged with tampering/fabricating evidence as well as lethal conduct.
According to Newton County Sheriff Robert Burby, the individual will not be named until he is arraigned.
He was subsequently apprehended in another state and is now awaiting extradition back to Texas, according to a news statement from the Newton County Sheriff’s Office.
Rambo was shot and died during a party at the Elam Event Center just east of Newton around 4 a.m. on Sunday, November 10.
Deputies arrived minutes after the gunshot, but were unable to save Rambo, who died at Jasper Memorial Hospital at 5 a.m.
The Newton County Sheriff’s Office claims they are currently aggressively investigating this case and have found other persons of interest and witnesses.
