Florida – In a disturbing event, a 72-year-old man named G. Grant was arrested for attempting to murder his ex-wife’s new spouse, A. Bingham.

The attack, which includes a stomach stabbing, took place in a residence where the victim and his wife had been sheltering Grant, who was reportedly homeless before to the incident.

The incident occurred at the couple’s house on Thanksgiving morning. According to the sheriff’s office, about 11:15 a.m., deputies responded to a 911 call reporting a stabbing. Upon arrival and during a preliminary inquiry, it was discovered that an altercation between Grant and Bingham had escalated to physical action, resulting in the stabbing.

The victim received a stab wound to the upper abdomen. Fortunately, his injuries were not life-threatening, so he was soon brought to a nearby hospital for treatment. Bingham later told local reporters that a verbal altercation turned violent when he encouraged Grant to exit his room and interact more openly.

Bingham described how Grant reacted adversely, ordering him to “flake off” and indicating a wish not to interact with him. Bingham had no idea Grant was carrying a knife at the moment. “I felt it [stab me] in my side,” Bingham explained. “Then he tried to stab me again, but he cut my thumb while defending himself.

I grabbed his arms and used my right foot to trip him. And that’s how I escaped and phoned 911.” Grant apparently barricaded himself in a room following the attack, where he was eventually captured by law enforcement personnel.

Bingham voiced his dismay at the occurrence, adding that his intentions were solely to assist Grant during a difficult time. “I’m just trying to be a nice guy and help a homeless person out — and that’s the appreciation I get,” he told reporters.

Grant was arrested and placed into the county jail soon after the event. He is currently in jail without bond after being charged with one count of attempted homicide. His court appearance is set at 8:30 a.m. on December 20. The sheriff’s office has stated that, despite the familial links, the incident is not classed as domestic violence due to the nature of the relationships involved.

This instance has emphasized the potential risks of unresolved personal grudges, particularly when mixed with the pressures of providing refuge to people in need. The victim’s family is now left to deal with the consequences of a Thanksgiving marked by violence rather than happiness.

As the legal proceedings continue, the community is reminded of the significance of safety and the complexity of providing assistance to people in need, especially when underlying concerns like homelessness are present. The incident also raises concerns about the effectiveness of support networks for the elderly who are without shelter or proper care.
