The lone survivor of a deadly Missouri crash that claimed three lives is visited by Chris Stapleton

Alex Moffett was traveling with her father, sister, and grandmother when they were involved in the fatal collision.

Chris Stapleton is doing his part helping a kid who was the sole survivor of a vehicle tragedy that killed her family members.

In an interview with FOX 4 Kansas City, Alex Moffett, 19, of Erie, Colo., recounted how the country artist, 46, took the time to surprise her this summer when she lost three generations — her grandmother, father, and younger sister — all in the same day.

Alex and her sister Catherine Moffett, 16, were traveling with their father, Derek Moffett, 55, to one of Stapleton’s gigs near Overland Park, Kan., in June. During their getaway, the trio also visited Alex’s grandma, Patricia Moffett, 83.

“My grandmother was taking us to Warrensburg because she grew up there, and she just wanted to show us around,” Alex told the television station.

The family had just finished lunch and was approaching the crossroads of Missouri Highway 50 and Business Route 50 when they were struck by a 16-year-old driver who, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol, fell asleep behind the wheel.

Derek and Catherine perished at the site. Alex and Catherine were flown from Warrensburg and taken to Research Medical Center in Kansas City. However, Catherine passed away after giving her organs.

Alex, 19, has been on a long road to rehabilitation, having suffered a punctured lung and many fractures to her pelvis, ribs, arm, wrist, and orbital bones. She has had facial reconstruction, elbow replacement, and wrist surgery.

Her physicians learned that the family’s trip was largely for a Stapleton concert, and one of her surgeons was able to contact him and convey Alex’s tale.

“We were supposed to just have a FaceTime with him, and they called and said, ‘We are in really bad service, we’ll call you back in a few minutes,'” she explained before presenting a huge surprise.

“Like a minute later, we got a knock on my door and they just came in.”

According to the outlet, the “Tennessee Whiskey” singer paid a visit on Father’s Day.

Stapleton sang “Traveller,” a song he penned following his father’s passing, with the teen.

Before concluding her interview, the Montana State student expressed that the upcoming holidays will be difficult for her due to the loss of her loved ones.

“Every time I see a picture of my sister, my heart stops for a minute. It’s incredibly difficult to just process. “My father was my best friend ever; he was the best person,” she stated.

“Obviously he didn’t mean to kill three people, but he took my entire family from me,” the adolescent said of the driver. Later, “part of me wants his life to be over and the other part of me wants him to just be able to go on and live a really good life and make something of it and make a difference in the world.”
