Cantaloupe Recalled in 5 States
In their recall notice, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said that the recalled cantaloupes were sold whole, not cut up or cubed, and in plastic cases.
From August 13th to August 17th, the cantaloupes were sold in Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, Texas, and Virginia. An orange fruit will have a red, black, and white sticker on it that says “Kandy.” There are 224 cases in total that are being recalled from all five states. The UPC and Lot Codes are shown below:
- UPC: 4050

Salmonella Contamination
The recall was made because regular testing of the cantaloupe by Michigan state health officials showed that it was contaminated with Salmonella.
Salmonella could be present in these recalled cantaloupes. If eaten, they can cause salmonellosis, which is one of the most common bacterial foodborne illnesses. Symptoms often include fever, diarrhea, and stomach cramps. People who ate the contaminated foods would start to show these signs between six hours and six days later.
What To Do If You’ve Purchased Recalled Product
If you bought a recalled cantaloupe and have already eaten it, keep an eye on yourself and your family for any signs of a Salmonella illness.
If you bought the recalled melon and still have it in your home, you should throw it away right away and not eat it. Please check to see if you cut up the melon and put it in the fridge. If you did, please wash the container it was stored in very well.
If you think you might have a Salmonella illness, you should call your doctor right away. People can call Eagle Produce at 1-800-627-8674 for more information, questions, or issues.
