Be careful if you drive on any of these 13 roads in New York State this week: A ticket for speeding could be sent to you instantly. From now until Saturday, September 21, 2024, there are work zones where cars who speed will be automatically fined.
Vehicle and Traffic Law § 1180-E in New York says that automated speed cameras must be used in certain building zones across the state. The State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) and the New York State Thruway Authority (NYSTA) are working together on this project, which will last for five years.
Watch out if you drive here in New York
Fines can be given to registered owners of cars found speeding in work zones on controlled-access highways by the NYSTA and NYSDOT. This means that you will be fined no matter who is driving if your car is caught speeding.
- Automatic Fines: Speeding in designated work zones will result in automatic fines.
- Enforcement Period: The program runs through September 21, 2024.
- Responsible Party: The registered owner of the vehicle will be held financially responsible for any fines, even if someone else is driving the car.
Of course, it doesn’t matter who is driving because the system that checks for speed is automatic. The person whose name is on the car’s license will get the fine, whether a family member or a friend is driving it.
To avoid these fines, be extra careful when driving on roads that are being watched through work zones. Follow the speed limits that are marked, and make sure that anyone who drives your car knows these rules. By learning about the rules of the road and driving safely, you can avoid fines and make the roads safer for everyone.
