Soccer: Rice Lake competes to tie with Menomonie

A 1-1 tie on Pug Lund Field on Tuesday was the second game of the season for both teams. It was between Rice Lake and Menomonie.

The first 27 minutes of the game saw goals from both teams. After that, neither team scored again.

As the game went on, Rice Lake had several chances to score, but their shots either missed the goal or were stopped by Menomonie’s goalie Caleb Devries, who made nine saves.

At the end of the game, Sam Jevne made six saves for the Warriors.

In the 23rd minute, Menomonie scored the first goal. They are now 11-3-3 and 7-1-1. They got a corner kick, and Menomonie got a penalty kick because someone touched the goalie while he was in the box. At 22:46, Ryan Xu scored the first goal with his penalty kick.

Quickly, the Warriors (5-4-6, 2-4-2) had an answer. While Rice Lake was on defence, Fernando Salazar stole a pass and ran the ball up the field.

When the Mustang goalie left the nett, there was a race to the ball.

The game was tied at 26:25 when Cale Ash scored a goal that went around the goalie and into the nett. He did this by beating both a Menomonie defender and the goalie to the ball.

Thursday at Chippewa Falls, Rice Lake is back on the field.
