If you are one of the thousands of Americans receiving SNAP benefits and whose EBT cards have been depleted, there is something you can do. Checking your EBT card balance may be an unpleasant revelation after thieves have stolen all of your money.
Scammers deploy skimmers on top of credit card devices, so use your EBT card with caution. Before using your EBT card, ensure that the card device has not been altered. Bot calls are another way to get access to the funds on your SNAP card. They successfully steal your food stamps by using any personal identifying information.
Report Stolen SNAP Benefit Payments
According to the USDA, the rule mandates states to replace Food Stamp benefits that were stolen between September 30 and December 20, 2024. The Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act has changed the date.
The USDA suggests using the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program State Directory of Resources to locate your local Food Stamp office. In fact, you can find all the contact information here: https://www.fns.usda.gov/snap/state-directory
Once you’ve located your local SNAP office, you can phone or visit them. Sometimes they offer a webpage where you can report stolen benefits online. Stolen benefits must be reported within 30 calendar days. So, notify the incident and file a claim as soon as possible.
How long can a State take to validate a SNAP stolen benefits claim?
The state has ten calendar days to substantiate this theft claim. Furthermore, Food Stamp benefits for approved claims will be issued to an EBT card no later than the day following approval.
If you reside in Oregon, you can file your claim online at https://www.oregon.gov/odhs/food/pages/snap-replacement.aspx.. The Oregon Department of Human Services provides the chance to claim.
