SNAP recipients is this State can still buy “Hot Foods” using their Food Stamps

The State of Georgia has been given a brief waiver by the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture). This way, people who get food stamps (SNAP) can buy “hot foods” after Hurricane Helene.

Of course, this exception to using SNAP (Food Stamps) to buy ready-made hot meals is only available in certain places. These are only the places where Hurricane Helene did the most damage.

When is the deadline for SNAP recipients to buy hot foods in Georgia?

As of November 7, 2024, the Georgia Department of Human Services says that people in this state can use Food Stamps to buy hot items. That means that customer approval will end at that time.

Keep in mind that you can only use your SNAP benefits to buy ready-to-eat foods at stores that accept them. You won’t be able to use Food Stamps at stores that haven’t been accepted.

It was okay for them to buy hot foods because many people in Georgia have been affected by Hurricane Helene and can’t cook at home yet. Either they don’t have enough power or water, which means they might not be able to cook at home. Or even both.

Which counties have got approval to buy hot foods with SNAP EBT cards?

The counties that can use Food Stamps to buy hot foods are listed from letter W to letter A. The Department of Human Services suggests that people stay up to date by visiting their website or social media pages: Visit https://dhs.georgia.gov/
