Shots from the hip: Temmers eclipses 100-yard mark for 3rd game

The Ellsworth Panthers are ranked #5 in Division 4, and Head Football Coach Jordan Hansen’s team is ranked #4. West Salem is the best team in Division IV because they haven’t lost yet.

Barrett Temmers, a running back for Prescott, went over 100 yards for the third game in a row against Somerset on Friday. The senior is very good at football; he has scored eight touchdowns and averaged 8.6 yards per run.

With five games under his belt, senior quarterback Teddy Bernick has completed 69.7% of his passes and thrown 11 scores. Will Packard (22) and Kobe Russell (21), two wide receivers, have caught the most passes for the team. Senior linebacker Owen Bayer makes the most stops for the defense.

Linebacker Lewis Kinneman comes in second, and defensive end Wyatt Wrisky rounds out the team’s top three.

The Wisconsin High School Golf Coaches Association has now put the Prescott Cardinals as the fourth best team in the state. This month, the Cardinals did very well in tournaments with #1 Divine Holy Savior, #2 Hartland Arrowhead, and #3 Brookfield.

This shows that the Cardinals are more than ready to fight at the Division 1 level. They have won the WIAA Division 2 State Championship four times and are the favorite to move on to the team state title next month.

Wow. That’s the best way to describe Mark Hawkins’ work on Firehall Field’s newest softball shed. Hawkinson is very good at building and organizing things. His garage has shelves, storage nooks, wood platforms, and hooks that hang from the ceiling.

Any garage owner would be impressed. Hats off to Hawkins, whose many hours of free work made everyone who went into the storage building go “oh” and “ah.” When you get the chance, make sure you check it out.

In Middle Border Conference play, Baldwin-Woodville will come to Geoff Snyder’s house on Thursday, and St. Croix Central will come to Snyder’s house next Tuesday. The first game of each day starts at 7 p.m.

When we talk about baseball, the Prescott CAB Company is going to close Firehall Field this Saturday at 8 a.m. As the 2024 baseball season comes to an end, work needs to be done on the infield and other parts of the field. Brady Randolph, Charlie Block, Brad Matzek, and Jim “Juice” Johnson, who is a great field manager, are hoping that a lot of people will help this Saturday.

The UW-River Falls Falcons beat Grenville University (Illinois) 66-7 with help from junior safety Jack Olson and senior offensive lineman Austin Fox. Both Olson and Fox went to Prescott High School. Ranked #7 in NCAA Division III, the Falcons will travel to Cincinnati, Ohio this Saturday to take on Mount. St. Joseph University.

Prescott graduate Reese Ptacek registered three kills against #9 ranked Creighton but the 10th ranked Jayhawks fell to the Bluejays at the Jayhawk Classic last weekend.

Early in the playoffs, Kansas beat Purdue, which was ranked #6. The next game for the Jayhawks is this Wednesday at 6 p.m., when they face the University of Central Florida Knights. ESPN will show this game.

From the Department of Natural Resources in Wisconsin: It was revealed last week by the DNR who won the contest to design the 2025 Wisconsin wild turkey, pheasant, and waterfowl stamp.

Talented artists from around Wisconsin submitted artwork for judging, which took place on Aug. 24 at the Wisconsin Waterfowl Expo in Oshkosh.

The winning entries will be featured on the next editions of the wild turkey, pheasant and waterfowl stamps. Holmen resident Robert Leum took first place in this year’s wild turkey and pheasant design contests. Jon Rickaby of Suamico took first place in the waterfowl design contest.

Headshaker of the week: Whether it be high school, college, or professional events spectators must always be mindful of those around them.

When the cheers or enthusiastic fans turn into foul mouthed adult tirades regarding the officials or play calling, remember those within a 20-to-30 foot radius are still learning their “A, B, Cs” and how to multiply and divide.

Yes, we all understand we get “caught up in the moment” from time to time, but it never justifies the use of curse words within an eye shot of the little one. Fans, clean it up. It’s a headshaker.
