Nearly two months after a local teen girl went missing, police in Maine gave an update and new photos.
Stefanie Damron, 13, was reported missing on Tuesday, Sept. 24, one day after she “was last seen walking out of her house and into the woods located on the West Road in New Sweden,” according to Maine State Police.
Christopher and Lisa Marie Damron, the teen’s parents, had stated that their daughter “got into an argument with her sister” and then “walked off” into the woods, according to WGAM-TV.
Police are now releasing fresh photos of Stefanie as they continue their “extensive investigative efforts.”
“These photos appear to show a younger Stefanie – the most recent photo we have is the one we’ve posted previously with the flower in her hair (from Summer 2024),” the pair stated.
“Investigators have conducted many interviews and followed up on leads in Maine, nationally, and in Canada,” police stated in their most recent press statement. “The Maine Warden Service and Maine State Police K9 Unit have searched large parcels of land near Stefanie’s last known location.”
Stefanie is described as 5’0″ and 130 pounds, with green eyes and shoulder-length brown hair. They also stated that she was last seen wearing blue pants, a long-sleeved blue shirt, and black Harley Davidson hiking boots.
Stefanie’s parents claimed in their statement that they were not present when their daughter vanished. “We live a half mile back in the woods and our kids are very comfortable in their surroundings so there was nothing to raise flags the first few hours,” they told me.
Stefanie’s great aunt, Jerri Harms, informed the Brooklyn Squad podcast that the girl and her parents relocated from Texas to New Sweden in 2020, as previously reported by the Bangor Daily News.
According to Harms, Stefanie attempted to flee several times but was always apprehended by relatives in the woods.
Following Stefanie’s disappearance, a citizens’ organization assisted in the hunt for her in the woods of New Sweden. “We’re not going to stop until we find her,” Whittni Nichols, who is also a member of the Facebook group Help locate Stefanie Damron, told the Bangor Daily News.
“Please keep your eyes open and sharing,” Stefanie’s mother said on Facebook on Sunday, November 3. “Help us bring our baby girl home safe and sound.”
MSP did not react promptly to PEOPLE’s request for an update on the search.
