Pink in the Park 4K benefits cancer services at JRMC

Even now is the time to sign up for the 11th Pink in the Park 4K Fun Run/Walk.

The Unity Point Health – Jones Regional Medical Center (JRMC) Foundation team, which is led by Director Amy Keltner and Volunteer Coordinator Pam Goodyear, is putting together this event.

The money raised at Pink in the Park goes to the hospital’s Imaging Department to help pay for programs like mammography.

“The Imaging Department staff are deeply focused on supporting our patients, so the Foundation team steps in to put on this fun, family event in support,” said Keltner.

As per the hospital’s site: “Imaging technologies play a critical role in patient diagnosis and have expanded to include general radiology, fluoroscopy, CT (computer tomography), mammography, ultrasound, MRI (magnetic resonance imaging), nuclear medicine, bone density, and lunch cancer screening.”

Pink in the Park will happen at Wapsipinicon State Park in Anamosa on October 19 at 9 a.m. People can sign up on their own for $30, which includes a t-shirt. A t-shirt is promised for everyone who signs up by Friday, Oct. 4. People who sign up after that date or the morning of the race will not be promised a shirt.

On Oct. 19, check-in begins at 8:30 a.m.

“It’s a positive, local event that everyone can connect to,” he said. “Almost everyone knows someone who has been through the fight, whether it’s a family member, friend, neighbor, church member, or someone else.

People can feel supported and involved without having to travel far when they can take part in a shorter event in their own neighborhood. It makes me happy to be able to take part in our Pink in the Park event and help local fundraisers keep services in our area going for a long time.

The money raised at this event has been used over the years to help the JRMC Imaging Department with buying new equipment, updating old equipment, and meeting general patient needs.

“As technology changes quickly,” he said, “we at JRMC are continuously working to fund equipment and upgrades to ensure the latest and greatest in cancer detection, prevention, and treatment services.”

She said that getting behind your neighborhood hospital and the services JRMC offers is important. It makes a bigger difference when you do it “with a strong group of community members.”

“It is a really powerful moment when we’re all gathered at the starting line with the same hopes and dreams for the future of this mission,” said Keltner. “You’re really missing out if you don’t join in.”
