Because of a new option set up by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), some drivers can get their license for free. This benefit is only for veterans with service-related disabilities that are more than 60%, as long as they meet the criteria.
The DPS made it clear that business licenses are not covered by this exemption. It only works with driver’s licenses and Real IDs that are given by the right federal agencies in the US. If you are a veteran in Texas with a disability connected to your service and want to get a free driver’s license, you will need to show certain documents.
Required Documents for Free driver’s license
To apply for a free driver’s license for veterans with service-related disabilities, ensure you have the following:

The Department will put “veteran” or “disabled veteran” on the front of your driver’s license or ID card once they confirm that you are disabled veteran.
Special Designations
The term “disabled veteran” can be used for veterans who have a disability rating of 50% or more, or for veterans who have a 40% disability and have lost a lower limb.
