The National Park Service said in a statement Sunday that Austin King was reported missing after he didn’t show up for his boat pickup on Friday afternoon near Yellowstone Lake’s Southeast Arm.
This was the end of his seven-day backcountry trip to top Eagle Peak.
A search began early Saturday morning. Savers found King’s camp and personal belongings in upper Howell Creek that night.
On Sunday, more than 20 people on the ground searched for King near Eagle Peak in the remote southeast part of Yellowstone. They were helped by two helicopters, drones, and a search dog team.
People can help the police find King, who is described as having brown hair, green eyes, and glasses. He is 6 feet tall and weighs 160 pounds.
King was last seen or heard from on Tuesday around 7 p.m. local time, when he called his family and friends from the top of Eagle Peak to report snow, rain, sleet, hail, and wind.
In a missing person flyer, the park said that King was left off at Yellowstone’s Terrace Point on September 14. After two days, he talked to a backcountry guard at Howell Creek.
The Yellowstone Interagency Communications is asking anyone who has seen or talked to King since September 14 or knows where he is to get in touch with park officials.
