Authorities have reported that a man from Ohio who abducted his 7-year-old non-custodial daughter from a relative’s residence has died as a result of an encounter with police.
The girl was taken from a relative’s residence in Empire by Charles Alexander, 43, after a physical altercation and argument on Monday, November 11, at approximately 3 p.m., according to the Associated Press.
WOIO reports that an Amber Alert was promptly issued, requesting that the public be vigilant for a Ford F-650 U-Haul vehicle with Arizona plates that Alexander had taken the girl without approval.
Alexander, who was involved in a pursuit that involved multiple departments, was attempted to be stopped by police in Brunswick at approximately 8 p.m. that evening, according to the Medina County Sheriff’s Office, and the Associated Press.
The police utilized law enforcement devices to deflate his tires.
The sheriff’s office stated that Alexander drove the U-Hall with the deformed tires off an exit to a fast-food restaurant, where he had spoken with several dispatch centers by phone before being shot, according to the AP.
“He passed away shortly thereafter,” according to The Columbus Dispatch.
The sheriff’s statement did not specify whether Alexander was armed or the circumstances that precipitated the officers’ opening fire, according to the Associated Press.
The child was discovered in Medina and subsequently reunited with her family, according to the sheriff’s office.
