Newaygo suspect is on the run; deputy hits deer during pursue

Following a high-speed pursuit that took place close to Sand Lake, a suspect is still on the run as of the morning of Sunday.

We have been informed by Newaygo County Dispatch that a number of agencies are providing assistance in the search which is taking place within a perimeter that focuses on 22 Mile Road and Elm Avenue.

The event took place at approximately one in the morning. Deputies from Newaygo County pursued the suspect through Newaygo County on Sunday, following an unsuccessful attempt to pull him over for traffic violations near Grant.

During the pursuit, which at times proceeded across private property at high speeds, a Newaygo deputy is said to have struck a deer, according to communication from dispatch.

According to our sources, the suspect then abandoned the vehicle and ran away into the woods.

The authorities made an effort to locate them, but at four in the morning, they decided to call off the search. We were informed by the authorities that they want to proceed with the inquiry on Sunday afternoon.

In the course of the pursuit, nobody was wounded. Although we do not yet have any information regarding the suspect or the reason for the pursuit, the authorities have stated that there is no threat to the general public.
