In July of this year, it will be 16 years since the federal minimum wage was last increased. The wage of $7.25 per hour was implemented in 2009, and despite efforts, it has yet to be increased. However, certain states, such as Florida, have higher rates.
In September of last year, the state minimum wage was raised from $12 to $13 per hour, with tipped employees receiving $9.98 per hour.
The minimum wage in the Sunshine State is expected to rise again in 2025.
When the minimum wage will increase in Florida this year
In November 2020, Florida voters approved a state constitutional amendment that would raise the state’s minimum wage annually until it reaches $15 per hour on September 30, 2026.
Citizens voted in favor of the Amendment 2 proposal, which was approved by the state legislature, allowing for a gradual increase in the minimum wage, including one this year.
On September 30, 2025, Florida’s minimum wage will rise to $14 per hour and $10.98 for tipped employees.

This is how Florida’s minimum wage will rise in 2026 and 2027
In 2026, the minimum wage will increase to $15 and $11.98 for tipped employees. Although the amendment only allows for one-dollar increases up to $15 per hour in 2026, it also states that subsequent increases will be based on changes in the Consumer Price Index to protect workers’ purchasing power.
The $15 hourly wage will be in effect until December 31, 2027, with indexed increases based on the Consumer Price Index beginning in 2028.
