The Social Security Administration just told everyone that there is a new change that is now official for the accounts of millions of seniors. You told the SSA that you would rather do business with us electronically by sending us forms, proof, and other documents online.
You can do this starting right now. Papers that need your signature will be able to be signed online before they are sent in. One way to send documents was made available: eSignature/Upload Documents.
With this new online service option, clients can send 50 forms and about 80 pieces of proof electronically, and our agents can electronically request them. We need the information you give us to process applications and other business.
You also don’t have to mail, fax, or deliver information to a local Social Security office if you choose this choice. Social Security is making things better for them by speeding up the process of sending in documents and sending less mail.
The new change announced by Social Security in retirees’ accounts
Social Security said that their representatives will send people a link that asks them to provide the forms and/or proof that are needed to process their application.
Then, customers can prove who they are by logging in to or making a personal My Social Security account, reading the request, filling out the form, electronically signing it (if needed), and uploading the form(s) and any supporting documents. Because of this, sending proof or forms has become easier, and you no longer have to mail, fax, or bring them to the Social Security office.
It is important to know that customers may get a reminder email and have 30 days to send the needed information online. If the internet request runs out, you can ask our office for a new one, or you can mail, fax, or bring in the forms and other necessary paperwork.
Aside from the eSignature/Upload Documents feature, the SSA is also switching many widely used forms to easier-to-use online versions. People will be able to easily fill out an online form, sign it instantly, and send it in. Not having to sign some forms is now enough.
There are more than thirty forms that can be signed electronically. These forms make up 90% of the forms that people who come to our local Social Security office usually use.
One of the forms we use most often is SSA-827, which is Authorization to Disclose Information to the Social Security Administration. It can now be sent and signed online. Forms that can be electronically signed and sent that are also often used are
- SSA-820/821: work Activity Reports.
- SSA-632: request for a Waiver of Overpayment Recovery.
- SSA-634: request for Change in Overpayment Recovery Rate.
Additionally, please keep in mind that the Social Security Administration has totally taken away the need to sign 12 of their most common forms. These are some of the forms that were mentioned:
- SSA-L4201: employer Requesting Wage Information
- SSA-789: request for Reconsideration/Disability Cessation Right to Appear
Many of these forms can also be uploaded online, which reduces your workload even more. We are also contemplating removing signature requirements from additional forms.
What do these changes mean for Social Security beneficiaries?
The changes are meant to speed up the process, make it easier for people with disabilities and those who live in rural areas to get services and benefits, get rid of the need for people to visit the office in person, lower the risk of losing documents, and make sure that personal information is safer and more secure.
Always remember that the Social Security Administration wants to make things easy for you, no matter how you do business with them—online, over the phone, or in person. The SSA will keep looking for new ways to make it easier to do business with them.
