MSSU Football Head Coach Atiba Bradley reflects on team's first win versus Northeastern 27-20

OK, BROKEN ARROW – The Missouri Southern State Lions got their first win of the season on the road this past weekend against the Northeastern State Riverhawks. They made an amazing comeback in the second half after falling behind 20-3.

After the first two quarters of play, it didn’t look like there was much hope going into week -04. But once the third quarter started, something clicked.

The Lions scored 24 points straight in the second half and held the Riverhawks to a score of 20.

Another problem going into the week was that Lions top target Deontay Campbell was out with a knee injury that wouldn’t go away. Tight end Alex Martini filled in for him.

He went on to score one of many touchdowns for Missouri Southern.

Atiba Bradley, the head coach, was very proud of how hard his team worked to finish the game and talk about what he thought made the difference.

“The starting position made the most difference.” Look at the first half again. I believe the first drive began on the 50-yard line. I think the second drive began at -40 degrees. “Once they have the ball in the middle of the field, it’s hard to stop them,” says Bradley.

“Our guys kept working hard, and giving them the ball on the minus 20 to start the second half really helped.” When the half was over, we were able to get three straight stops. Then our offense put together a great drive down the field, and from there, we kind of just took off, Bradley said.

The Lions will try to build on their recent success when they host Central Oklahoma on Saturday, October 5th. The game starts at 2:00pm.
