McDonald's hamburgers send many to the hospital; one dies in Colorado

In Colorado, more than 25 people are sick after eating a hamburger at a well-known fast food chain. A case of E. coli is being watched by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention across the country at McDonald’s.

Of the states that recorded cases as of Tuesday night, Colorado had the most, including one death. Investigators say the infections are connected to either the onion or the beef pieces in the McDonald’s Quarter Pounder Hamburger.

“Why are you having this trouble?” A customer named Candice Bonday said, “You should have the tools to make sure that doesn’t happen.”

Any business could be hit by this. Any link. “It’s just too bad,” said Steve Hopkins, another neighborhood customer.

At the more than 181 places across the state, you can’t order the meal right now. It is said that more than 26 people in Colorado are sick.

Dan Katz from the Colorado Public Information Research Group said, “Colorado has a lot more illnesses than anyone else and than any other state nearby.”

The head of the fast food company said that they are working closely with the CDC to keep everyone healthy.

“We have taken steps to make sure that restaurants in some states don’t serve slivered onions, which are used in quarter-pounders.” “We also decided to take the quarter-pounder off the menu for a while in some states,” said Joe Erlinger of McDonald’s USA.

The CDC is keeping a close eye on present cases, so more could be reported during the week.

“I do think the number will go up.” Katz said, “People should pay attention, and if they’ve eaten there recently and are now having stomach problems, they should take this seriously.”

The CDC says that if you recently ate a Quarter Pounder and are now sick, you should see your doctor right away and tell them what you ate.

Three to four days after eating the sandwich, you might start to feel sick.
