Magical Unicorn Caterpillar Changing Maine by Surprise, Horn and All

People who know about Maine’s wildlife know that there are some animals that will make you wonder “What the heck is that?”

They catch your eye and make you wonder why you haven’t seen it before. When you become interested in something, you have to use Google to find out exactly what you are looking at.

This is what happened to Kristi not long ago in North Waterboro, Maine.

On the Maine Insects Group Facebook group, she shared a picture of the animal she found. I knew I had to show you this little guy as soon as I saw it. I present the “Unicorn Caterpillar!” to you, ladies and gentlemen.

Kristi quickly got a lot of comments on this post from people who know about this worm. That horn is still bothering me!

It will change into a moth in the end. Its real name is the White-Lined Sphinx. But I love the horn!

The horn is usually black at the end and can be yellow or orange. It is important to know that this is not a stinger and that the caterpillar is not dangerous to people.

Check out this beautiful 4K YouTube movie that shows how amazing this caterpillar really is.

The White-Lined Sphinx is sometimes called the “hummingbird moth.” It certainly looks like a magical being, and when it changes into a moth, its wings can get as long as 3.5 inches, making it fly like a hummingbird. Once its change is over, some people even think this little guy is a hummingbird.
