Lois Geist recommended as interim UI VP for Research

During the meeting that took place on Wednesday, the Iowa Board of Regents made a recommendation to approve a request that was submitted by the University of Iowa.

The request requested that Lois Geist occupy the post of temporary United States Vice President for Research.

Those who are conducting research within the institution have access to resources thanks to the Office of the Vice President for Research.

In addition to this, it develops strategic initiatives for the infrastructure of administrative and compliance processes.

In accordance with the information provided on its website, the office is made up of six regulatory compliance offices, eight research centers, four core research facilities, research development and communications teams, the University of Iowa Research Foundation, and the State Hygienic Laboratory.

Geist is succeeding Marty Scholtz, who made the decision to step down at the conclusion of his five-year tenure in order to accept a post at Brown University. Geist will take up the position.

While at the University of Iowa, Geist held the positions of provost for faculty, professor in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Occupational Medicine, and associate dean of faculty affairs at the Carver College of Medicine. Both of these positions were held simultaneously.

At the moment, Geist is employed at the Carver College of Medicine, specifically within the Department of Internal Medicine. On the 9th of September, the UI made the decision to fill the post with her.

In order to give Geist’s appointment the official stamp of approval, the regents will vote on Thursday. The user interface is still looking for a replacement that will be permanent.
