It's our time to step up for the future generation

As a retired person and taxpayer, I want to strongly urge you to support the new elementary plan on November 5.

Because of these things:

1. I remember how hot those buildings were in the summer and fall when I taught there in the 1980s and 1990s. It is not at all possible to learn when there are 25 kids in a classroom on a hot day. A lot of the time, we had to leave early, which hurts learning and makes it harder for families to find child care. Because of climate change, it will be hotter all year.

2. Even 30 years ago, there wasn’t enough area for computer rooms, extra helpers, group activities, and music, art, and fitness programs.

3. Imagine how excited kids would be to go to school all year long if it had new, modern tools for learning and a nice, cozy space.

4. For our town, state, country, and the world to move forward in the future, we will need educated, useful, and happy people. People from earlier generations stepped up to give us resources. It’s our turn now!

I agree with what President Franklin D. Roosevelt said: “The school is the last expense that America should be willing to cut back on.”
