In New York City, an elderly man was pushed from a train onto a subway platform, and police are currently looking for the alleged attacker

The New York Police Department (NYPD) is looking for the man who pushed an 80-year-old man onto a subway platform in Manhattan.

On Wednesday, Nov. 20, about 4:30 p.m. local time, the elderly man was boarding a train at the Grand Central-42nd Street subway station from Lexington Avenue when an unnamed younger man began arguing with him, according to NYPD officers.

In a video released by the NYPD, the younger man is seen ranting and quickly shoving the 80-year-old out of the subway car. After the automated doors close, the younger man stands on the train as it departs the platform.

“The unidentified individual pushed the male victim off the train, causing him to fall onto the northbound platform,” police said in a news release, adding that the elderly man sustained hip injuries in the incident.

Emergency medical personnel transported the injured guy to New York-Presbyterian Queens Hospital, where he is currently stable, according to authorities. Meanwhile, the suspected assailant remained on the train and “fled to parts unknown,” according to reports.

Detectives appealed the public for aid in locating the attacker by sharing an image of the younger male, as well as a description.

“The sought individual is described as a male with light complexion, approximately 6′ 3” who weighs 210 pounds. “He was last seen wearing a black sweatshirt, brown hat, and black headphones,” the press notice reads.

This tragedy is the latest in a series of injuries and deaths on New York City’s subway system in recent years. In March, an NYPD spokesman confirmed to PEOPLE that a man died after being pushed onto the train tracks at East Harlem’s 125th St. station.

The NYPD stated that the incident was “unprovoked,” and that the train was unable to stop in time, striking the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect, a 24-year-old man, was eventually arrested.

The same month, a man suspected of forcing his fiancée onto a subway rail during a “domestic dispute” was charged with attempted murder and felony assault. The 29-year-old lady was hit by a train at the Fulton Street station in midtown Manhattan, officials said at the time.

Furthermore, local media sites, including ABC 7 New York, claimed last month that an 82-year-old woman was forced onto subway lines at a Flushing, Queens, station, but no one was arrested.

Anyone with information on the most recent attack is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
