I-95 reopens New Hampshire-Maine border after 'active police scenario'

Interstate 95 was closed in both directions near the New Hampshire-Maine border amid an “active police situation,” authorities warned.

In a post on X just before 2 p.m. Tuesday, New Hampshire State Police reported the route was closed near the Piscataqua River Bridge.

The road reopened about 4:00 p.m.

State police reported that troopers were responding to a “mental health crisis on the bridge.”

The Piscataqua River Bridge connects New Hampshire and Maine.

A man wanted in connection with his wife’s murder was fatally shot by state troopers on the Piscataqua River Bridge in late August.

That incident resulted in a six-hour closure of the heavily travelled bridge.

“The State Police warn anyone experiencing a mental health crisis that help is available. Anyone can phone or text the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 9-8-8 for free and confidential help for oneself, a friend, or a loved one,” New Hampshire State Police said in a statement.
