The husband of a Texas lady who went missing after attending a party in October has been charged with her murder.
On Thursday, Nov. 7, Brad Simpson, 53, was “charged with murder in connection with the death of his wife,” Suzanne Clark Simpson, 51, a Texas Department of Public Safety official told PEOPLE.
The mother and realtor, who live in Olmos Park, Texas, has gone missing since Monday, October 7. On October 6, she and her husband were claimed to have attended a party at The Argyle, a San Antonio private members club.
According to KSAT, Simpson’s bond for the murder accusation has been set at $2 million. According to the publication, his total bond is set at $5 million, which includes earlier allegations such as assault inflicting bodily injury to a family member and unlawful restraint.
According to WJAR, Simpson fled the Bexar County Jail about 1:15 p.m. local time on Thursday, before returning and being charged two hours later.
According to the site, the arrest affidavit is sealed for 30 days.
According to the TV station, despite the fact that no corpse was discovered, authorities think they have “enough evidence to proceed anyway.”
Simpson’s brother, Barton, told KSAT on Thursday that “it is heartbreaking, but it brings our family some peace to know that authorities have gathered sufficient evidence to feel confident in moving forward with charges.”
“This also helps us accept the fact that Suzanne is no longer with us, allowing us to begin a tough grieving process and focus on reconstructing our lives, particularly for the benefit of the children and our wider family. We are grateful to all law enforcement officers involved for their professionalism in dealing with this circumstance,” Barton said, according to the site.
The allegations came about a month after Olmos Park police chief Fidel Villegas said in a KENS-streamed press conference on October 9 that Simpson had been arrested after failing to show up for a meeting with police. People had claimed that he had been detained and charged with assault and family abuse.
Villegas stated at the time that after learning of Suzanne’s disappearance, authorities were notified of an incident at the family’s house, which may have gotten physical before she was reported missing.
According to Villegas, Simpson and Suzanne had been married for around 22 years. NBC News described her as a mother of four.
