A fresh face took the stage Sunday at the 2025 Golden Globe Awards, and first-time host Nikki Glaser faced the difficult task of keeping famous A-listers — and millions of people watching at home — entertained as Hollywood celebrated the best of TV and film from the previous year.
Glaser, a comedian who rose to prominence after appearing on Netflix’s “The Roast of Tom Brady” last year, was charged with hosting Sunday night’s award event. She became the Golden Globes’ first solo female host.
Here is what you should know about this year’s host.
Who is Nikki Glaser?
Nikki Glaser, an Ohio native, has donned numerous hats in her career. She is mostly a stand-up comedian, but she has also been a successful actress, podcaster, radio and television personality.
She started performing stand-up comedy at the age of 18, working her way up to appearances on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “Conan,” and two seasons of “Last Comic Standing.” She is well-known for her brutally honest comedic style and filthy, relatable stand-up specials.
Glaser spoke with “CBS Mornings” in December about the arduous journey that brought her to the Golden Globes stage at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
“It is been a lot of hard work leading up to this point of, like, a 22-year career where some people are suddenly starting to take notice,” Glaser joked. “I am at a point in my life where, you know, I am old enough to kind of handle this kind of attention and not let it go to my head.”
She has spoken out about her battles with self-medication, eating disorders, and drinking, telling CBS “Sunday Morning” in a recent interview, “The obsession with work is, like, just not wanting to feel.”
But she said she was not concerned about the strain of hosting the Golden Globes. “I thrive on anxiety,” she explained. “I enjoy feeling like, ‘Oh, what is going to happen?’ I enjoy that sensation. “I kill it when I am anxious.”
What movies and shows has Nikki Glaser appeared in?
In addition to her performances on late-night shows and “Last Comic Standing,” Glaser hosted Comedy Central’s “Not Safe with Nikki Glaser,” a comedy and conversation show centered on sex.
She also starred in the 2022 reality show “Welcome Home Nikki Glaser,” and hosted the reality TV dating shows “Blind Date,” “FBoy Island,” and its sequel, “Lovers and Liars.”
She appeared in Amy Schumer’s comedies “Trainwreck” and “I Feel Pretty,” as well as on competition shows “Dancing with the Stars” and “The Masked Singer.”
Glaser has also taken part in roasts of Rob Lowe, Bruce Willis, Alec Baldwin, and Tom Brady.
The comic has published four comedy specials, the most recent of which, “Nikky Glaser: Someday You will Die,” earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Stand-up Comedy Performance.
“It was really cool to get the nomination on top of preparing for this,” Glaser told “CBS Mornings” regarding the Globes. “To me, hosting is No. 1.”
Despite the pressure, Glaser was looking forward to the experience and her big night, regardless of whether she won or not.
“I will do a bit after my award is given out,” she told me. “I think it is kind of funnier if I lose.”
She eventually lost out to Ali Wong.
