For the murder of a sergeant at Fort Leonard Wood, authorities have charged a specialist

On October 21, authorities detained a Fort Leonard Wood soldier for the death of a sergeant on the base.

Specialist Wooster Rancy, 21, is accused of homicide and obstructing justice in the death of Sergeant Sarah Roque. Specialist Wooster is a member of the 5th Engineer Battalion at the post.

Investigators declined to reveal how Sgt. Roque died. Investigators believe her corpse was discovered inside a dumpster on the post. The Department of Army Criminal Investigation Division is still conducting an investigation.

Sergeant Roque, of Ligonier, Indiana, was a bridge crew member and Mine Dog Handler with the K9 Detachment, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 5th Engineer Battalion. She enrolled in 2020 and went through Basic Combat Training at Fort Leonard Wood.

Sergeant Roque’s medals and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Army Service Ribbon.

Rancy is originally from North Miami, Florida. He entered the Army in 2022. He took Basic Combat Training at Fort Leonard Wood.
