First Half 2024-25 Property Taxes Due

First Half 2024-25 Property Taxes Due

Northwest Iowa — Your 2024–25 property taxes, which are sometimes called real estate taxes, are due in full. Northwest Iowa county treasurers want to remind you that the payment can be made on or before September 30th without a fee.

You have to pay half a year’s worth of property taxes on every six months if you own property. You can also choose to pay all of your taxes at once. Early this fall, the first payment is due.

The last payment is due in the spring of the following year. It’s likely that your mortgage company pays your property taxes through an escrow account. If you’re not sure, you can ask them.

Most people who own property get a letter about their taxes. One stub is for the fall payment and the other is for the spring payment.

They are clearly marked “1” and “2.” You can pay the full amount for the year or just what is due as of September 1st on the one marked with a “1.”

You can pay your taxes in person, online, or through the mail. The Iowa Treasurers say that www.iowatreasurers.org is the best place to pay your taxes online.

When you pay online, you have to pay a service fee. Some of your tax payment plus a flat fee is taken out by the treasurer’s office if you pay with a credit card. The whole fee is generally less than a dollar if you pay with an e-check.

In the four-county area, the county treasurers’ offices are open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

If you pay your taxes in person at the county treasurer’s office, you need to bring the right proof of payment with you. You should put the stub in the envelope if you’re sending it or using a drop box.

People who pay in person or through a drop box must do so before September 30th at 4:30 p.m. The postmark on any mail sent must be on or before September 30th.
