Etna man condemned for using his dead brother's identity for decades

Maine – An Etna man was imprisoned for using his deceased brother’s name for decades.

Napoleon Gonzalez, 87, was found guilty of six federal crimes in August 2023.

According to federal court records, Gonzalez began using his brother Guillermo Gonzalez’s identity in the 1960s after the latter died as an infant in 1939.

Napoleon Gonzalez utilized that identity to obtain several passports and a social security number.

Gonzales also received dual retirement benefits.

Gonzalez has been compelled to pay nearly $175,000 in restitution and sentenced to 5 months probation.
