Dr. Katrina Victoria, Infectious Disease Specialist welcomed at WWH

LA CROSSE, WI – Western Wisconsin Health (WWH) is happy to say that Dr. Katrina Victoria, MD, has joined our medical staff. As an Infectious Disease Specialist, Dr. Victoria will help patients with identifying, treating, and avoiding a wide range of infections. This is a brand-new service at WWH.

She got her medical degree from the Cebu Institute of Medicine and her Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from Velez College. Dr. Victoria is originally from Cebu City, Philippines.

She did her training in internal medicine in the Bronx, New York, and then her fellowship in infectious diseases in New York City. She is excited to share her knowledge with our group because she is very interested in microbiology.

Nick Berger, Director of Speciality Services at WWH, was excited about the new hire and said, “We are thrilled to have Dr Victoria join our team.” The field of infectious diseases is changing very quickly, and having an expert like Dr Victoria will help both our patients and our providers a great deal.

She will help make sure that everyone in our community gets the best care possible by handling complicated infections, increasing the use of antibiotics, and teaching both patients and staff how to avoid getting them.

It is very important for infectious disease experts like Dr. Victoria to advise on the use of medicines, deal with complicated infections, and teach both doctors and the public. Different living things, like bacteria, viruses, fungi, or parasites, can spread infectious illnesses.

Some are mild, while others may need advanced medical care. It may be easy to treat common infections like strep throat or the flu, but Dr. Victoria’s knowledge will be very important for treating more serious or complicated conditions like tuberculosis, HIV, pneumonia, and new illnesses.

“Prevention is Better than Cure,” says Dr. Victoria. This is a belief she got from her family of doctors and has carried with her throughout her work. She is excited to work with local health care providers and teach people in the community how to stay healthy by doing things like getting vaccinated and keeping clean.

Western Wisconsin Health can be reached at (715) 684-1111 or wwhealth.org to find out more or make an appointment with Dr. Katrina Victoria.
