On the weekend, a large group of people crowded the door to a parking lot in the Willow Glen neighbor hood of San Jose. Police are now looking for those people.
A parking lot near Bird and Minnesota Avenue was taken over by more than 100 people on bikes on Saturday afternoon. The people who were there were between the ages of 13 and 20.
Witnesses said that they were reportedly setting off smoke bombs and fireworks, among other things. John Lamantin, who lives in San Jose, said he was trying to pull into the lot.
They scared him because they thought they might hurt him, someone else, or my car.
Lamantia said that the teens were also doing doughnuts on their bikes and blocking him from getting in. He also said that some of the teens were just hanging out, but others were getting violent.
Lamantia said, “People were leaving Safeway, and one woman just ran to her car with her basket because they were throwing bottles at her.”
NBC Bay Area talked to more witnesses behind closed doors. They didn’t want to be named because they were afraid for their safety. The mob was also said to have stolen things from Safeway and a booze store.
A pregnant woman who saw what happened said that the group threw rocks and other things at her as she tried to leave the area. She was hit in the face. Someone else broke her windscreen and gave her car dents.
Police in San Jose said that several cops responded and the group split up. Police reported that the group was making fun of people and throwing things at them, and that several people were hurt. The police are now looking for those who did this.
“It’s bad for our neighbor hood.” Lamani said, “It keeps people from going to businesses and makes them very nervous.”
