A lady is on trial in Georgia for the 2020 death stabbing of her 13-month-old daughter, which authorities say she committed in order to be with her “polygamist cult” husband.
On December 8, 2020, the Canton Police Department reported that Hannah Nicole Driver had been found with stab wounds in the bedroom of a Cherokee County, Ga., residence. She died after being taken to a local hospital.
According to authorities, the child’s mother, Chloe Alexis Driver, was also found with “life-threatening injuries” and charged with a number of felonies, including murder with malice and cruelty to minors.
Chloe was arrested after being discharged from the hospital.
Nearly four years later, Chloe, who was 20 at the time of the crime, is on trial for murder in a Cherokee County courtroom, which is live-streamed on Court TV.
Prosecutors said during opening remarks on Tuesday, Nov. 12, that Chloe was the wife of a “polygamist” who murdered her child to live with him. The man is not facing any charges in connection with the girl’s death.
Chief Assistant District Attorney Katie Gropper stated in court that Chloe was part of a “alternative lifestyle” in which she was married to a man who had two other wives.
Gropper said in court that the “polygamist group” held “radical views” and engaged in “alternative” therapeutic techniques such as “drinking their own urine.”
She accused Chloe of killing Hannah because she wanted to be with Hannah’s father.
A letter reportedly written by Chloe and submitted in court reads: “He didn’t do it. I did it. I was going nuts and didn’t want to be with his pals anymore, yet I kept coming back to him. I just wanted my baby and my spouse, but he refused.”
Gropper explained the claimed motive: “She wanted to be with him, and he was never going to give up his polygamist cult lifestyle that they had adopted.”
According to authorities, Chloe shut herself and Hannah in a room and stabbed both the kid and herself on that December day. Hannah’s father discovered the mother and daughter, allegedly letting out a “blood-curdling scream” and asked Chloe, “What did you do?” Gropper testified.
As the trial progressed, the court heard graphic aspects of the event, such as Hannah’s condition when she was taken to the hospital following the attack.
Dr. Carli Blomquist, an emergency room physician who treated Hannah, told the court that the kid was “empty of blood” when she was brought in.
Chloe faces charges of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and cruelty to minors, according to Cherokee County online court records.
According to the records, Chloe has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.
