Biden to deliver final speech to U.N. General Assembly as president

Tuesday, President Biden will give what will likely be his last speech on the world stage as president and his last speech to the UN General Assembly. This will be the end of a long political career that has been mostly about foreign policy.

Heads of state from all over the world are coming to New York for the 79th sitting of the UN General Assembly, or UNGA.

A top administration official told reporters that the president’s speech will cover many of the foreign policy issues he has talked about during his whole administration.

These include getting the world to support Ukraine, dealing with global competition, and stressing how important it is to keep the U.N. Charter alive.

“He came into office four years ago with a vision of America returning to the world stage, having a new way of interacting with other countries bringing countries together to solve some of those big challenges,” a top government source told reporters.

This person said that the president will be able to “review” some of the foreign policy goals that Mr. Biden has reached during the speech.

This is a busy week for the president when it comes to foreign affairs. Over the weekend, he met with the leaders of Japan, Australia, and India at his home in Wilmington, Delaware.

Besides meeting with world leaders at the UNGA, he will also meet with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine, at the White House on Thursday.

A top administration source said the president will talk about what’s going on in the Middle East, which is likely to take up a lot of time at the conference. The high-level source said that things between Israel and Lebanon were “tense and dangerous.”

Monday, missiles hit southern Lebanon and killed nearly 500 people, according to the health ministry of Lebanon. Israel said it was going after Hezbollah weapons that were hidden in homes.

Israel announced a new round of attacks on the Iran-backed group in Lebanon at the same time as the explosions. They told civilians to leave any buildings or areas where the group had weapons or soldiers stationed.

Mr. Biden has said that he thinks an agreement on a cease-fire and hostage negotiations is close, but a deal has still not been reached almost a year after the deadly Hamas attack on Israel that started the war.

Mr. Biden said earlier this month that Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister of Israel, isn’t doing enough to reach a deal.

Six of the people Hamas had been holding hostage were killed last month. One of them was an American citizen.

Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine was a big issue at the UNGA last year. Mr. Biden has long stressed the need to protect democracy, both as president and as a presidential candidate.

After President Donald Trump’s presidency, which was less friendly with friends, Vice President Joe Biden has stressed that the United States should have close ties with allies.

“To deliver for our own people, we must also engage deeply with the rest of the world,” Mr. Biden said in his 2018 speech to the UNGA. “We need to work with other people, our partners, towards a shared future to make sure our own future.

” I think that our safety, our wealth, and even our freedoms are more linked than ever before. So, I think we need to work together more than ever.”
