BANGOR, Maine— A Maine man accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend two months ago appeared in court on Wednesday.
Richard Thorpe, 42, of Bangor, pleaded not guilty to the murder of 39-year-old Virginia Cookson, who was discovered dead at her Larkin Street home on September 25.
Police claimed they were called to Cookson’s home and job in the days preceding her death for instances involving Thorpe’s behavior.
According to court documents, Cookson was strangled.
Thorpe was apprehended in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, on September 27 after a warrant was issued for his arrest.
During Wednesday’s proceedings at the Penobscot Judicial Center, attorneys moved for discovery.
Thorpe is set to return to court in February.
