WAUKESHA, Wis. — As Hurricane Francine continues to dump rain and flood Louisiana, animal rescues in Wisconsin are doing more to help.

There were 86 dogs on the plane that left Louisiana on September 14. Thirty of those dogs were dropped off in Waukesha.

About twenty people from HAWS and other shelters in the area showed up to help unload the dogs and meet them.

HAWS says it was important to help Louisiana shelters prepare for Hurricane Francine, even though they were already full.

V.P. of Greater Good Charities, Erin Robbins, said, “Very chaotic. We pulled this together very quickly because so many of the shelters were without power or were having problems.” “Some of the shelters are damaged so they were just getting inundated with an influx of post storm pets.”

Before the dogs are put up for adoption in a few days, they will be checked out and given baths.
