After an argument, a Springfield man was charged with shooting his cousin in the face

Springfield, Missouri – A Springfield man has been charged with shooting his cousin in the face last week.

According to court filings, Zewayne Durley, 51, has been charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal activity.

On November 17, about 8:30 p.m., officers responded to a house in the 1100 block of North National. Officers discovered a man had been shot in the face and transported him to the hospital.

Officers on the scene interviewed witnesses to better understand what transpired.

According to investigators, three days later, a Springfield Police officer visited the victim’s recovery room and questioned him about the incident. According to court documents, the victim’s injuries prevented him from speaking answering questions.

The victim said Durley was his first cousin and that Durley shot him following an altercation.

Investigators discovered that Durley had plans to flee to Iowa or Minnesota and had family in Mount Vernon. Officers investigated his apartment building and learnt from neighbors that he was hiding.

Durley has a criminal history that includes first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, and unauthorized possession of a firearm.

Durley was arrested and is being held in the Greene County Jail without bond.
